Thari means loom

தறி — thari — is the Tamil word for the loom itself. Not the finished drape, not the shop: the frame the cloth is made on. That is the part of a saree most sites leave out, and it is the part worth knowing. Where it was woven, on what, by whom, and why the border is the shape it is.
